Sunrise balloon rides are popular in Rajasthan and at festivals across India. Many people do not realise that commercial passenger balloons appear on the same DGCA list as jets and helicopters.

What DGCA lists

DGCA’s list of non-scheduled operators, as on 31 August 2026, includes 11 hot air balloons, made by Ultramagic and Cameron. They are on the permits of two operators, both with Delhi addresses:

A Delhi address does not mean the balloons only fly in Delhi; operators run rides at locations around the country.

Before you book a ride

  • Ask which company operates the balloon, and check it in our charter operator directory.
  • Ask the pilot’s experience and the balloon’s registration.
  • Ask what happens if wind or weather cancels the flight. Balloons fly only in calm conditions, usually early morning.
  • Follow the crew’s briefing on landing position; landings can be firm.
